Visitor from Walmart: Don Wiseman

We were honored to have Don Wiseman, Senior Associate General Counsel at Walmart to visit our last class of the semester and share his perspectives on careers in agricultural and food law.

Don has practiced law for more than 30 years, most often with a focus on agricultural and food law issues.  He now serves as Senior Associate General Counsel at Walmart and is the Company's subject matter legal expert for food safety and regulatory compliance, as well as consumer product safety and compliance.

Prior to joining Walmart, from 2003 through 2007,  Don served as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Swift Foods Company of Greeley, Colorado, the world's third largest fresh beef and pork processor.  From 1991 to 2003, he was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Memphis-based Perkins Restaurants, the operator and franchisor of the 500-unit Perkins Restaurant and Bakery chain. Prior to that, he was a partner in the Memphis, TN firm of Waring Cox, where he practiced securities and corporate law, including CFTC practice for futures trading merchants.

Don is an avid skier and trout fisherman, and an occasional helicopter pilot.  He is licensed in Tennessee and Colorado.

Don gave the class an interesting look at the myriad of professional opportunities available in food and agricultural law and discussed his work at the largest food retailer in the world.  Our appreciation is extended to Don for his support of our program and his willingness to share his expertise with our class.
